Puerto Rico has many nice things to offer its tourists. Year-round warm weather, white beaches and what most of us don't know, wonderful diving. All of this with the convenience of the island being part of the United States takes the hassle of travel documents, such as a passport and money exchange, out of your vacation.
Scuba World, which recently became an IANTD Training Facility is conveniently located in Rio Piedras, just a few minutes outside the San Juan Metropolitan area. The shop added Nitrox Instruction to its line of services which includes oxygen cleaning for tanks and EAN 32 and EAN 36 fills as well as IANTD and PADI courses in Spanish, English and German. You can get your diving instruction privately or within a group, the store will make arrangements for your individual needs. Scuba World has a large variety of rental gear and is licensed by all major lines of equipment to repair your gear in case of a last minute equipment failure. Puerto Rico has a large variety of dive sites. La Parguera on the southwest side of the island offers unlimited diving in waters that have an average visibility of 100 ft/30 m. The large variety of fauna and beautiful walls in the area amaze even the most experienced diver. Should you decide to stay in the area, you have a choice of small hotels along the main street.
Ponce, on the south side of Puerto Rico, is a great place to start your trips to "Caja de Muerto" Island. This place is ideal for shallow water reef dives and for those of you wishing to admire fantastic coral formations. Ponce, being the second largest city in Puerto Rico, has accommodations that range from an inexpensive guest house up to internationally known five star hotels.
For those who like overhead environments the "Cuevas de Isabella," which are located on the northwest, is the perfect spot. A series of cavern and cave systems will offer opportunities for fantastic explorations.
Fajardo, on the east side of Puerto Rico, is a very popular site, and dive oerators in this area will most probably take you to Palomino Island. Due to the great variety of fauna and the good visibility we recommend for those owning photographic equipment to bring it along. Should you decide to leave the main island, the islands of Vieques and Culebra offer fantastic opportunities to admire all of Puerto Rico's underwater beauty. Small guest houses will accommodate you if you wish to spend the night on the islands. If you seek adventure, the island on Mona offers some of Puerto Rico's finest diving, and is the place made just for you. The island, located 50 miles southwest of Puerto Rico, is reached by boat and then camp out on it. These crystal clear waters will offer you rewarding dives that admiring the flora and fauna in this untouched area, which might soon become a marine sanctuary.
